Program Speaker: Ben Davis — Illuminate The aim of art is higher than art, so ILLUMINATE aims very high. Our highly aspirational mission of changing humanity’s future for the better via public art—some would call it impossible—is a reflection of our core beliefs. The best of our projects will always be radically accessible, free to experience and widely viewable. ILLUMINATE’s flagship project is The Bay Lights, one of the largest pieces of public art in history. Conceived and permitted originally as a two-year installation, the original artwork shone nightly from the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge from March 5, 2013, to March 5, 2015. ILLUMINATE successfully led the effort to return The Bay Lights as a permanent installation, gifted to the State of California, on January 30, 2016. ILLUMINATE is currently pursuing multiple projects that inspire awe and wonder and we invite your participation. Meeting Schedule:

January is Vocational Service Month - let's put our professional skills to use! Take advantage of a wonderful opportunity for members of Rotary clubs in San Francisco to connect with youth in the San Francisco Unified School District through its career and college readiness program. This a great opportunity for Rotary to partner with the SFUSD by offering mentoring and career exploration, and other youth development opportunities. CTE academies are high-school programs that integrate students learning in school with real-world opportunities to increase student motivation and achievement. According to The California Center for College and Career, "Pathways that link learning with student interests and career preparation lead to higher graduation rates, increased college enrollments, and higher earning potential." CTE academies expose students to different career fields, motivate them to think about their personal college and career path and integrate the development of 21st century pre-professional skills. CTE academies feature cross-curricular projects focused on specific career industry themes and academic topics. The Academy courses stress hands-on, project-based learning to provide a more authentic, real-world educational and work-based learning experience for students. Please register on EventBrite and attend to learn how our club can support the youth of San Francisco. Be sure to stop by the CTE table and introduce yourself! |

Join us for our March social event at Third Rail Bar in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco! Third Rail is a cocktail and jerky bar tucked away on a quiet street in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood. The bar is the result of the collaboration between chef Phil West and barkeep Jeff Lyon, two life-long restaurant guys who worked together at Phil’s restaurant, Range. Third Rail’s cocktails feature fresh, seasonal ingredients, high quality spirits, hand-cut and hand-crushed ice…but it’s still a great place for a simple shot and a beer. What really sets Third Rail apart is the jerky. Some of it is smoked, some of it is dehydrated, but all of it is delicious. They even offer a vegetarian jerky!
