PRLS was developed by Rotarians for Rotarians, offering practical training that will benefit you on both a personal and professional level. The Basic PRLS Program is a six-hour workshop consisting of five topics:
Together, these topics introduce the desired skills a leader should have to effectively plan, organize, manage, promote, present orally, and lead in any setting. Cost: PRLS day of instruction is normally $50 per person, and includes supplies, continental breakfast and lunch. However, SF Evening Rotary proudly sponsors its members so they can attend for FREE! The San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival is a celebratory reflection of the country and the Bay Area’s diverse cultural dance forms. The event has showcased the cultures of Brazil, Iran, Mongolia, Hawaii and beyond, and is known around the world. We will be assisting at the event door. Volunteers will receive free entry to the event, so we can go see a performance before and/or after the shift! Dave holds a B.A. in English from Pomona College in Claremont, California and is continuing boardmember of the North American Simulation & Gaming Association (http://www.nasaga.org/). After a three-year stint teaching English in Japan for the Mombusho English Fellows program, Dave worked in tourism and the non-profit sector before discovering his destiny as a treasure hunt master, team-building trainer, and entrepreneur. In 1992, a collaborative of six emergency family and domestic violence shelters created the Homeless Children’s Network (HCN) to address two needs: first, to address the traumatic effects of homelessness and violence in the lives of young children and their families; and second, to establish a “standard of care” across a variety of shelters and housing programs. Born and raised in China, Mr. Nan Su came to the U.S. in 1989 and has been serving as a news commentator for SOH International Chinese Radio Network and NTD International TV Network since 2003, commenting on a wide range of national and international news events. In addition to his media work, Mr. Su is an advocate for human rights in China. He was one of the coordinators of Human Rights Torch Relay in 2008 prior to Beijing Olympics. Starting from Athens, Human Rights Torch Relay spanned from July 2007 to July 2008, with stops at more than 100 cities around the world in order to raise international awareness of China’s human rights situation. Mr. Su was instrumental in making San Jose as the first stop of the torch relay in North America. We hope you will join us as we hear more from Nan Su about his work in China and here in the US. In 2004, 6 Rotarians had a vision of how they could help people afflicted with cleft lip/palates and created Alliance for Smiles. They had two goals in mind, to send medical teams to sites to perform corrective surgery, and to create treatment centers where the protocol of cleft treatment in the United States could be replicated.

Since 1989, the 10 RotaCare Bay Area Free Medical Clinics have provided free health care, including exams, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. Last year, RotaCare handled over 10,000 patient visits throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. RotaCare’s mission is to bring free medical care for to those who have the most need and the least access to medical care.
At our upcoming meeting, we will hear from the CEO of RotaCare Bay Area, JP Sahi. We hope you will join us to welcome her to our club and find out more of how these clinics are helping our communities.

University of California, San Francisco's Global Health program is motivated to free the world from malaria. They have created the Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI) who are focused on malaria eradication through regional elimination. They have developed innovative, strategic, and evidence-based solutions for countries and regions to eliminate malaria. Join us as we hear from the Associate Director of Epidemiology, Hugh Sturrock, as he talks to us about their efforts, how they use technology in the eradication process, and how this could be helpful in Rotary's efforts to eliminate malaria.
