As the year comes to an end, our thoughts turn graciously to all of you who made our success possible this year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2023!

December was a month filled with service for SF Evening Rotary. We've highlighted our December projects below. Thank you for all of your support throughout the year and generous donations. May the next year be a prosperous, joyous and 'Service Above Self' year for all.

Gum Moon Holiday Boutique & Rotary District 5150 Project for "Empowering Girls & Women"
Rotary District 5150 offered each club $200 for any projects empowering girls or women.  The Rotary Club of San Francisco Chinatown did the first Holiday Boutique for the women of Gum Moon Residence Hall in 2019 and spear-headed this project. This year SF Evening Rotary, Rotary Club of Greater Mission, and Rotary Club of SF West all joined to make this year's Holiday Boutique bigger and better.  The Holiday Boutique allowed the 30 female residents at Gum Moon to 'shop for free' for gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories that they can wear to job interviews, school, etc.  To learn more about Gum Moon, you can watch the video here created by former SF Evening member, Horatio Jung.
The Tara Labang Project
After learning of the sudden death last year of our friend and former member, SF Evening Rotary earmarked funds in our foundation for a project to honor the life & memory of Tara Labang.  Tara was always so proud of her time in Rotary and participated in many service projects with our club. If you had the privilege of knowing Tara, she had that lovable, spunky personality and was known for her big beaming chestshire cat grin.  By profession, Tara was a nurse and then went to grad school to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. So to honor our friend, we used the earmarked funds this year to make the holidays a little brighter for all 30 female residents at Gum Moon.  We purchased for each resident $25 Walgreens gift cards, new packages of socks, a pair of house slippers, a keychain personal safety alarm, soap, and other items. And the $800 in District funds from the 4 clubs was donated back to our foundation so we can repeat this event next year.
Guadalupe Elementary School Garden Project
SF Evening Rotary had our first gardening day last Saturday at Guadalupe Elementary School in the San Francisco's Excelsior district. We're partnering with Sunset Recology and this is part of a long term project to revitalize and beautify the school's garden. Our members were removing weeds and clover overgrowth and laying down layers of mulch around the garden beds.  More gardening dates will be added to our club calendar soon so be sure to check our website www.sfeveningrotary.org for updates.
